Looking Back on One Year of Momentum

Good afternoon, Momentum builders! Wow! What a great dinner Sunday night! How fitting that, at our one-year anniversary dinner, the entrees were served family-style? What started as a brainstorm among a few has turned into a passion for many: the Cafe Momentum family.

In reflecting over the past year, I continue to revisit a quote my cousin sent me a few years back. It has popped up in my head more frequently lately:
“A leader is best when people barely know he exists, not so good when people obey and acclaim him, worse when they despise him. But of a good leader who talks little when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: We did it ourselves.” –Lao Tau
I truly believe this speaks to everyone involved with Cafe Momentum—and that includes you, our guests and supporters—and specifically the role that we all play in the lives of the young men. Each dinner presents the young men with a series of firsts: the first time they see and taste some of the foods they prepare, the first time they make an honest dollar, the first time they work among a group of positive adult role models, and the first time they are told “good job.” It is the first time they realize, “I did it myself.”

Can you imagine the impact on these young men when they get a daily dose of Cafe Momentum instead of just once every six weeks? Not only are we transforming lives, but we are also transforming generations.

It’s happening thanks to you.

With sincere gratitude,
Chad
